HERO POINTS
I've come up with the reward system I'd like to use for
role-playing awards. I will award "hero points." (guidelines
for the use of hero points follow this section).
Hero points will be rewarded at the end of each
session for the following:
Player Votes:
1. Good role-playing awards (one for player votes)
2. An additional hero point will be awarded to the player who scores
the vaunted "Quote of the session." Don't go out of your way to actually
TRY for this reward, as the best quotes are usually those that come out
of nowhere without trying. Quote winner will be decided by DM and player
input combined. =)
3. An additional hero point will be awarded for players who encourage
a good deal of fun for all while playing, and discourage disruptive
behavior and unnecessarily long 'quibbling' over irrelevancies. (this
used to be combined with the role-playing award in my games, but I feel
it deserves separation). This point will be withheld for any who are
consistently disruptive of the fun of others, or otherwise selfishly
pursue their own agenda with no concern for the fact that there is a
group of 6 individuals who ALL deserve to have fun. (note, when the DM
shows this behavioral pattern, the player's are encouraged to please
smack him...we all DO have bad days which make us surly now and again.)
- 1 hero point awarded for player vote.
Additional Awards
Only ONE hero point from the following may be received for any single
session.
1. Character Journals - A player who writes a good and thorough character
journal for a session, where the journal truly 'gets inside' the character's
heads may earn a hero point. This point will be awarded if, and only if,
the journal is of sufficient quality in both readability and entertainment
value that I can post it on this website with little to no editing or
formatting.
2. Illustration - A player who draws, paints, or the like may earn a hero
point for depicting an event or situation from the session. This hero
point will be awarded if the artwork is of sufficient quality to post it on
this website.
3. "Bonus" hero point - The DM reserves the right to award a bonus hero
point to any player at any time for any action, activity, or occurrence that
he feels is deserving of a special reward.

(in all cases, intent to use hero points must
be declared prior to given action/use).
1. One hero point may be spent to add a +4 to any skill check, attack roll,
saving throw, initiative roll, or ability check. Up to 5 hero points (for
a total of +20 to the roll) may be used on any single such dice roll.
2. Two hero points may be spent to automatically succeed in a 'stabilizing roll'
to stop bleeding when between -1 damage and death..
3. Five hero points may be spent to roll 2 dice for hitpoints when leveling
up. The highest of the two rolls is used for hit points gained (NOT the
sum). This option may not be taken multiple times for any given level
(i.e. maximum of two dice rolled). However, re-rolling of low results (as
outlined in house rules) applies to both
dice rolled as well, giving one a very good chance of getting very good
hitpoints.
4. Two hero points may be spent to automatically score maximum damage on any
single damage roll. Note the term is 'single' damage roll. Thus, a
6d6 fireball would require spending twelve hero points to maximize (two per
dice). This also applies to critical hits where multiple rolls are taken.
5. Twenty hero points may be spent in order to gain an additional general
feat. This option can not be used for non-general feat (such as fighter,
metamagic, etc.).
6. One hero point may be used to reduce the damage of any single melee or
missile attack against you by half. Intent to use this must be stated
prior to damage roll by DM. Note this only applies to melee or missile
attacks. For magical attacks and the like, use option 1 above to increase
your saving throw.
