Hear ye! Hear ye!

Here is where you can find out the latest news, rumours, and gossip going on in and around the City of Sails and its lands.  Come one and all, and listen to the Town Crier.

  • Wealsun, 591 CY

    • Midsummer Draws Near
The city's abuzz with preparations for the great midsummer festivals.
    • Furyondy sends assistance
With the wheat shortage of this year, much fear over famine was allayed when Furyondy agreed to export twice the normal amount of this crop to Dyvers this year.  This great show of diplomatic generosity surprised many, as everyone is aware the Furyondy still has many problems of its own with the disappearance of its king and other problems caused by the Greyhawk Wars.
    • Assassins strike at the Palace!
A pair of assassins attempted to assassinate the magistrate, or so its said!  She's been seen out and about, so if this rumour is true, the attempt most obviously failed.
No official word was issued from the office of the Magistrate to either support or refute this rumor.
    • No mourning?
Many people are beginning to talk about how odd it is that the Magistrate has not yet offered up either reward for her husband's return, nor declared a candle vigil be held to mourn his presumed loss.
So far all adventuring bands who've returned from looking for him in the 'hopes' that reward could be had have come home empty handed.
    • Reward Offered
A 1000 gp reward has been offered to anyone who can provide information regarding the disappearance of all the residents of the southern Rhelford manor house.  The reward can be collected from Allistar Delhambra, a cousin of the Rhelford family,  at his family house in Dyvers.
    • Dimbuckle Ransacked
The entire village of Dimbuckle, on the shores of the Nyr Dyv in Greyhakw Domain, was sacked by invaders from the see.  The only living survivor found said that the ship which sailed away with most of Dimbuckle's residents in its hold flew the yellow sails.  He claims he only survived by hiding in a wood pile through the ordeal, and barely survived himself when the slavers set fire to the entire town before departing.
    • Wedding Announced
Huthain Fairwood announced the engagement of his son Oracan to Belinda Langham of the Westguard Langham's.  The formal courtship is to begin over the Midsummer holidays, and the wedding will be held in one years time if all goes well.
    • Not plague, but not good
The high priest of Pelor made a formal announcement that fears of plague are exaggerations.  In the same statement, he did indicate that the number of deaths from disease this spring and summer were nearly triple to that of prior years, but blames this upon the overcrowding which the city has faced since the wars, combined with the shortages of food supplies through the winter and spring.  "Its not good, these deaths, but we have everything under control" he said in his report regarding the matter to the magistrate.
  • Flocktime, 591 CY

    • Criminals Beware!
A handful of city guards and night watchmen have been seen with that interesting rope and ball device, called a bola, at their waist opposite their blades.  In the hands of a skilled user, the effectiveness of this unusual 'weapon' at stopping those attempting to flee the watch is causing quite a stir among the less savory elements of the city.
Its range and light weight are making the man-catcher nearly obsolete, and rumor has it that the the Council will be trying to push approval to divert a portion of the annual city watch-budget into mass-producing these, as well as extensively training a large portion of the watchmen in its use.
    • The Fist's are Foiled again.
Word on the street claims that Hextor's faith recently attempted to unearth an old ruins containing an army of fiends not to far from the City.  The last thing the City of Sails needs is another massive war!  Fortunately, a band of heretofore unheard of heroes discovered and foiled the plans of the Fists.
    • The Magistrate Declares War!
With the wars of the past passing into history, and the city adjusted to its new population, the Magistrate is making a call to start a new war in the city, a war against crime!  She feels that now that city coffers need not stretch themselves to support so many defensive troops within the surrounding lands, those same funds should be used to fight a greater enemy, the enemy of profit and trade, within the city walls.  This motion is expected to go to the senate floor in a few months, and is gaining rapidly in support.
    • Mysterioius Disappearances!
The Rhelford manor, at the far extreme of the border with the Gnarley forest, was found abandoned recently.  No sign of Rhelford, his family, or his servants and guards was found.
    • Still No Sign.
There is still no word on the whereabouts of the Magistrates husband.
    • Wheat Shortages.
The price of winter wheat is double what it was last year, primarily due to poor snowfall early in the winter, and very harsh weather the rest of the season.
    • Plague?!?!
Priests of Pelor have had their hands full this month, as the increasingly warm weather has complicated the over-crowding within the city, causing more sickness and disease than in any prior year.  And we thought the food shortages in the winter were bad enough!
    • Yellow Sails Sighted.
Someone claims to have seen the yellow sails of slaver ships on the Nyr Dyv!!  The slavers haven't operated near the trade cities of Greyhawk and Dyver's since they were vanquished over a decade ago; few put any stock in this rumour.

  • Planting , 591 CY

    • Rhenee Invade!
Rhenee, flooding into the city for unknown reasons, have practically taken over the River Quarter, causing trouble with their gambling and boisterous ways.  Many citizens cry for the Council to do something about it!
    • Holy Relic stolen.
The Renvash Splinter (a reliquary of the Verbobonc Cathedral of the Holy Cudgel) was stolen by unknown personages, no clues to whom the culprits were have been found..
    • Missing Ship.
Word is out on the street that Rashaman of Safeton, the Magister’s husband, was aboard one of the Free Marine ships which has been missing for months.  Amazingly, Larrissa hasn't shown much outward sign that this is bothering her, but everyone knows it must be!  Some braver citizens whisper among themselves of the reward she might grant if they should venture forth to find, and if needed, rescue Rashaman.
    • Gnarley Troubles.
The southern holds have been having more problems than normal lately from foul denizens out of the Gnarley.  Rumours speak of land-sharks, large creatures which swim through the earth like it were an ocean, swallowing up entire flocks, shepherd and all.  Still other rumours claim that large greenish shapes were seen flying high over the northern fringes of the forest, most suspect those shapes belonged to those of reptilian appearance, rather than bird.
